Mortal Kombat 11: Here’s What Spawn Will Look Like

Coming straight from Todd McFarlane himself, the first official look at Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11 has been revealed with photos of the MK action figure. Based on highly detailed photos, Spawn will be wielding a massive sword in MK11, along with a full rendering of his trademark cloak. Other expectedly gruesome accessories in the photos include spiked gauntlets and chained belt.

McFarlane, the creator of Spawn, provided plenty of details about the figurine behind the photos. It will be available sometime in March, coinciding with Spawn’s appearance as a DLC character in MK11. The action figure, measuring 7 inches, tall, has a 22 point of “ultra-articulation” and full range posing – which explains the several different positions Spawn shows in the photos. One image even includes Spawn holding Scorpion’s severed head – a testament to just how well the revenant will fit into the bloody Mortal Kombat world.

You can see the full set of photos on the Todd McFarlane Twitter page for a closer look. As for Mortal Kombat itself, Spawn will come to early access in the fighting game on March 17th, allowing players who have purchased the Kombat Pack to pick him up immediately, with a full release occurring a week later. Fans of the game will be able to get a closer look at Spawn’s moves on March 8th when a preview will be released. Not only does the costume appear carefully authentic to the graphic novels from which Spawn – uh, spawned – but he will also be voiced by Keith David, the same actor who gave Spawn a brilliant rendition in the 1990s animated series.

But one thing I can’t help but notice is that this Spawn character isn’t the regular Spawn from you comic books but the Spawn from the medieval world Spawn. Only the shield wasn’t added but the sword & his entire custom matches that of the medieval Spawn

Other characters in the MK11 Pack have included the Terminator, the long-awaited Sindel, and most recently Joker, who came out in January 2020. Spawn will be the last character available via this Kombat Pack, and one that fans have been looking forward too for nearly a year.

Spawn’s release and reception are also important for another reason – it could easily dictate the future of Mortal Kombat 11. Fighting games infamously live and die by the strength of fast-waning community interest, so anything that studios can do to keep that interest alive is important. MK11 was already snubbed for the fighting event of the year, EVO 2020, a key component in keeping interest alive for any game. And while the MK community is loyal, Spawn’s performance will do much to dictate the chances (and price) of a Kombat Pack 2. Fortunately, the character is literally designed for bloody mayhem and interesting Fatalities, so players should have a lot to look forward to.
